The first Immigrant Day took
place in 1998; fourteen individuals
from the state of Connecticut were honored
for
their contributions to their profession and community.
Now we have the pleasure of honoring 20 individuals each
year. For Names of the honroees of the last many
Immigrant Days, please see the list below. Immigrant
Day continues to honor and recognize the inspiring contributions
of the immigrant and refugee communities
in Connecticut. The criteria used to establish nominations
for the award are as follows:
- Born outside
the USA
- Naturalized Citizen
- Connecticut Resident
- Contributed to profession and/or community
Immigrant Day also honors students who have made contributions
to their school communities. The criteria used for student
nominations are as follows:
- Born outside
the USA
- Does NOT have to be a Naturalized Citizen
- Connecticut Resident
- Academic standing
- Involved in Community Service and/or extracurricular activities
